Years past, there was a very well-known whips class that went on weekly at the Circus Center in San Francisco. For various reasons, the class eventually ended.

I'm quite pleased to be able to announce that a new version of the whips class is starting up again this coming March 6th. I'll be running it as a peer workshop rather than a class, although I'll be asking various people with good whips skills to come by from time to time. It will be held on the first and the third Thursdays of each month, in the same location as the old one, at 755 Frederick in SF (at Golden Gate Park, and by the Haight-Ashbury district.)

This will be a general-purpose whips workshop, not something solely intended at dungeon play techniques. Dungeon whips are welcome, as are long bullwhips. One of the charms of using this space is that it's in a gym environment, which means even a 14 foot bullwhip won't get tangled in the ceiling. However, since the space is vanilla, we won't be emphasizing any particular end-use for the skills we're practicing, nor open flames, alas...

The best way to get more information is from my Web page (http://www.laughingbear.org/whippery.html), and to join the tribe on Tribe.net (Grizzly's Bullwhips by the Bay, or http://tribes.tribe.net/bullwhipsbythebay). I'd also appreciate being emailed an email address, since if tribe is down, the only way to get last-minute info out is by standard email list postings.

ok, this might not work at all, but if it does, I think the possibilities would be really cool.

Imagine your favorite firewhip. Its all fueled up, but unlit. You drag it forwards, over your head, and at just that right moment pull your arm back forward for the perfect crack, and all of the sudden you've got a brilliant fireball appear out of nowhere in the darkness.

Cracking a whip gets the popper up to sonic speeds, so why should it be impossible to harness just a little bit of that energy into creating a spark to light the fuel cloud that gets blown off?

my initial thought was somehow attach the tip of a 'strike anywhere' match to the end of the popper, figuring that air resistance might be enough at those speeds to get the tip to ignight. I dont know if thats a realistic possibility, and I'm sure we can come up with a more consistent and reusable method.

What do you guys think?

I'm just curious as to what sorts of fuel and care tips you have, to keep them in order. I practiced with them for a while, but one of the whips has a funny burr on it now. Is this a really big problem, will the whip fall apart fast now, or is the kevlar fairly good at not continuing to unravel? Thanks in advance = )

In a previous thread I have heard some people say they do double body wraps while wearing only a pair of jeans and no shirt.

Maybe they where using different fuel from me? I use White Gas. To get nice fire balls

Anyway I did a performance the other day where I did a dounle body wrap. The wrap went fine, except that fuel soaked into my suit and my waist was on fire for about 2 minutes. It did not matter, because I had my fire proof suit on BUT if I had been wearing Jeans I would have had some nasty burns.

Anyone have ideas why this was different? I guess it was early in the performance and there was still a lot of fuel in the whip.
I found one place that sells them but the guy is a fundamental christian and takes 4 months to make it. Was hoping for something a little bit faster so I can use it to practice with while saving for a nice fire one. (and play with my friends under a uv cannon).

Now, I have attributed that to poor techinque--but now as my whip gets more beat up--I can't crack it to save my life?

Anybody else experience that problem?
Or perhaps the construction of my popper is to blame?

I can still manage to throw some decent fireballs--but I'm lacking the sound.
